After an early breakfast, meet your complete mountain team - guides, porters, and cooks who will support you throughout the journey. After a final gear check, drive to the trailhead at Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. The drive takes approximately 1 hour and offers views of Mount Meru rising majestically ahead. At the gate, complete park registration and meet your entire support team.

Begin trekking through dense rainforest, enjoying diverse flora and endemic birdlife. The trail winds through lush montane forest, one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the area. Ancient trees tower overhead, their canopies creating a green tunnel. The forest is alive with sounds - bird calls, the rustle of leaves, and the sound of water. Listen for the calls of various forest birds, including turacos, hornbills, and sunbirds.

As you walk, spot Colobus monkeys - these beautiful black and white monkeys are frequently seen in the forest canopy. They're fascinating to watch as they move gracefully through the trees. The forest is also home to other wildlife, including blue monkeys, baboons, and various antelope species. Your guide will point out different species and explain their behaviors and adaptations.

Day 3 MT. MERU Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut – Crater Rim Exploration

Wake to the sounds of the forest and enjoy a hearty breakfast as the morning mist begins to lift. Today's hike takes you from the montane forest into open moorlands, volcanic ridges, and unique highland terrain. Continue ascending through montane forests, where the vegetation gradually changes. The forest gives way to giant heather and other high-altitude plants, creating a different landscape. The trail becomes steeper, but your guide will maintain a comfortable pace.

As you climb higher, the views become increasingly spectacular. You'll see Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance, the Great Rift Valley, and the surrounding highlands. The landscape transforms from forest to moorland, with unique high-altitude plants dotting the slopes. The air becomes noticeably thinner, and you'll need to maintain a slow, steady pace. Your guide will monitor everyone's condition and ensure safety is the top priority.

Midday brings a picnic lunch on the trail with sweeping views of Mount Kilimanjaro and surrounding highlands. This is a perfect moment to rest, hydrate, and take in the incredible scenery. The lunch is prepared fresh and includes a variety of dishes to keep your energy levels up. As you dine, you'll have uninterrupted views of one of Africa's most iconic landscapes.

Day 4 SUMMITE Summit Day – Mount Meru Peak & Descent
Tap to expand

Summit Day - the most challenging and rewarding day of your journey. You'll be woken around 1:00-2:00 AM for a light snack and final preparations. Layer up with all your warm clothing - temperatures can drop significantly at this altitude, and wind chill makes it feel even colder. Headlamps are essential as you'll be climbing in darkness. Begin an early morning trek to the summit, 4,566 meters (14,980 feet), witnessing panoramic sunrise views over the Rift Valley and Kilimanjaro's northern slopes.

The ascent begins in the dark, and you'll be grateful for the darkness - you can't see how steep it is! The trail zigzags up steep volcanic scree toward the summit. This is the most physically and mentally challenging part of the entire trek. The air is extremely thin, every step requires effort, and progress is measured in small increments. Your guide will maintain an excruciatingly slow pace - this is intentional and necessary for safety and success.

The climb takes 3-4 hours in the dark, with only your headlamp and the stars above. As you near the summit, the first light of dawn begins to appear. Reaching the summit at sunrise is an emotional moment - you've made it to the top of Mount Meru! The views are breathtaking - you can see the curvature of the Earth, the Great Rift Valley stretching below, Mount Kilimanjaro's northern slopes, and the vastness of Tanzania. The sunrise colors the sky in shades of orange, pink, and purple, creating a magical backdrop.
